My neighbour’s daughter is appearing for the 10th board exams next year. She was a worried mother because her daughter hadn’t decided on the career she wanted to pursue. She was not sure whether she wanted to opt for the science, commerce or arts stream for higher secondary classes. After a lot of deliberation, she arranged a meeting with a career counsellor to give her daughter the right career direction.

If you are facing a similar dilemma, you can also consider career counselling for your children. Here are some reasons to do so:

Gives Clarity

It is natural for your children not to know what they want to do with their careers. They are influenced by parents, siblings and friends who give them different pieces of advice. So, they get confused between what is right and what is wrong for them.

A discussion with a career counsellor can clear the webs of confusion and figure out what they want to do in their life.

Aptitude-Based Guidance

You may want your child to become an engineer or a chartered accountant. But do they have an aptitude for it? Maybe they would thrive better in an art or humanity-related profession.

A career counsellor usually takes a series of professional career aptitude tests to determine your child’s strengths, weaknesses, interests and personality. The results of these assessments can help in discovering your child’s potential and choosing a career path accordingly.

Explore Different Career Options

Gone are the days when the meaning of a good career translated into only a few options such as engineering, medicine, law, finance and accounting or MBA. These days, technology has opened up doors to new career opportunities in both conventional and unconventional fields.

A career counsellor can introduce your child to different career options such as data scientist, cyber security expert, digital marketer, jewellery designer, photographer, event manager, etc. A career counsellor can even recommend offbeat careers such as ethical hackers, celebrity managers, pet groomers, game designing, etc.

Recommendations

Even if your child knows which career to pursue, it could be difficult to find the right college or course. You will have to spend ample time researching and comparing different colleges and courses.

A career counsellor can make this task hassle-free for you. They will give recommendations on the right college or course that would be good for your children and that too within your budget. They can also suggest career skill development training programmes that your child can do along with regular studies.

Career counsellors offer guidance and confidence that your children need to decide the next course of their educational and professional life. You can look for career counsellors here.

Here are some sample reviews from parents, to help you to share your own experiences:

Best classes for mathematics in Erandwane/Kothrud area. Limited kids per batch and give personal attention. We had a very good experience. My daughter is happy with teaching by ***** teacher.

Very engaging and fun filled sessions for the kids .My 8 year old throughly enjoyed all the sessions. Kids get a platform to express their views on various topics. Suggestion is to make this workshop extended from 1 month to 2 months or more.

My child has made excellent growth. The teacher gives attention to every child adequately and my child is very eager to attend the classes. And the teacher also has excellent skills in art.

We have seen ***** school growing from a pretty new school to a developed school in last four years. They focus lot on academics, extra curricular  actives and lot more.  They embed a lot of fun activities with academics which makes kids picks the basics as well as advance topics pretty well.  Teachers are attentive and they provide a very elaborated feedback about the child on quarterly basis. In short it's fairly a good option for kids for their overall growth.

Highly mismanaged branch of *****. Poor planning. No proper communication with parents. Teacher retention is very low. Good teachers gets transferred to other centres. In past 3-4 years 3 principal changed. Everything they do is for name sake. Workshops/ seminars are more of a sales  pitches. 10% return of value for your money.
